Our Feathered Friends

We have raised various breeds of chickens over the years. We have had chickens that have been the very definition of "underfoot" and those who have run away screeching when we were within 20 feet of them.   We have experienced bossy, loud, mean birds as well as sweet, calm, personable birds.  Larger birds mean less problems from hawks, and good foragers mean less pests to deal with.  Each year we buy 100-200 chickens to sell. We have chosen breeds that are good for meat and egg production, are good foragers and free rangers, are tolerant of both heat and cold, and have pleasing temperaments.

Chickens for 2025
Ready at beginning of May

Barred Plymouth Rocks

This breed has been around for a long time and are a main stay for family farms.   They will reach about 7-9 pounds at 1 year of age. Hens can lay up to 250 large eggs.  They are sweet, friendly, and docile.  They are very inquisitive and are great foragers.  Roosters are rarely aggressive, tend to be laid back, and can be found sitting on eggs giving mama a break.  Overall, they tend not to be pushy or overly assertive, so they get along well with other chickens.

Delaware

This breed is actually on the endangered list.  They are great free rangers.  They are calm, hardy, and quick to mature.  They will reach about 7-9 pounds at 1 year of age. Hens can lay up to 280 large brown eggs.  Hens can go broody.   They are not overly friendly, but they are very curious and will always be there to see what you are doing.  They are a great addition to your flock.

Rhode Island Reds

This is a great addition to your flock, especially if you are looking for good egg layers.  They are known to lay about 300 large brown eggs per year.  They are very hardy birds and do well in both cold and warm environments.  The are going to be at the head of the pecking order and can be energetic and sometimes loud.  They are very curious and keep a watchful eye on anything you are doing.

We will only have hens.
