False teaching abounds.  The “church,” as a whole, is confused and weak because of a lack of knowledge of God's word.  They do not understand what it means to be a true follower of God.  There are those that say with their words that they have put their faith in God, but their lives show something completely different.  There are those who hope they are saved, think they are saved, but they are not sure.

Oh, did you think I was talking about today? 

 

These were problems in the first century church.  John addresses this confusion in his short epistle of I John.  He talks about what genuine fellowship with God, through Jesus Christ, looks like.  It is characterized by walking in the light, confessing sins, loving your brother, and living a life pleasing to God - reflecting God’s nature to the world.
